Still no sign of an Avengers: Doomsday trailer, but we did get this very cool first official cast poster

Considering DunesDay is now less than six months away, and we’ve already had a teaser and full trailer for Dune: Part Three, to say we’re growing inpatient for an Avengers: Doomsday trailer would be an understatement. What we do now have, though, is the first official cast poster.

Shared by former Marvel Studios Director of Visual Development Andy Park across X and Instagram, he confirmed that Avengers: Doomsday marks the final feature film he led on. While the cast poster doesn’t give much away, there are plenty of tiny details to latch on – and spend far too much time analysing.

Doctor Doom takes centre stage

Aren’t we all still a little bit shaken at the reveal that Robert Downey Jr. would return to the MCU as Doctor Doom? With Tony Stark no more, it has yet to be revealed whether there will be any connection between RDJ’s former character Iron Man and Doctor Doom.

Low-key Loki is hiding under Doctor Doom

Will Doctor Doom take on Loki, the guardian of the universes? It sure looks like it given his looming presence over the marginally hidden Loki in the centre of the cast poster. In fact, in many ways, Loki is the very reason these timelines are all converging, as Avengers: Doomsday is set to bring groups of heroes from three different universes.

The comments about Steve Roger’s black T-shirt are sending us

From the fact Steve Rogers is entirely underdressed compared to his suited and booted peers, to questions on whether it’s a cotton or poly-blend, there is plenty of discourse about Steve Roger’s black T-shirt. He is looking decidedly very…casual. But some Reddit users are speculating whether this is not the Steve Rogers we know and love, but one from another timeline altogether.

Steve Rogers is holding a version of Thor’s hammer, Mjolnir

While Steve Rogers may be going against his own mantra (“If you’re gonna fight a war, you got to wear a uniform”), one thing he has got going for him is Thor’s hammer, Mjolnir, which he’s holding on the poster.

Antman is beside the New Avengers – could this allude to a new allegiance?

Some fans have pointed out it’s strange to see Paul Rudd’s Antman placed so close to the New Avengers, compromising Yelena, Buckeye, and the rest. Could this be a sign of a new allegiance, or…is this simply just a design choice?

Plenty of the cast are absent

Andy Park included in his Instagram caption what a “beast to paint” the poster was, which isn’t hard to fathom considering just how stacked the cast is for Avengers: Doomsday. However, that hasn’t stopped fans asking why certain characters haven’t been included, including Doctor Strange, Spider-Man, and the Hulk.

As Andy says in his caption, though, “These pieces represent more than the story or the characters in the film. For me, they also capture my own journey through the whole production—the challenges, the victories, the teamwork, the relationships, and all the fun we had bringing it to life."
