Marvel fans will be able to breathe a sigh of relief with some positive film development news. Following delays to the next two Avengers movies for Phase 6, which saw both pushed back by over six months, Spider-Man: Brand New Day will reportedly begin filming in mid-August according to The Herald.
The Scottish broadsheet also revealed that locations across Glasgow, Scotland's biggest city, would be used for the film.
Filming is set to take place across the city, predominantly in the city centre on Bothwell Street, St Vincent Street, Waterloo Street, and Oak Street through Richmond Street. So, if you happen to be in the city around that time, perhaps avoid those areas – or see if you can spy Tom Holland himself and witness another of his greatest Spider-Man moments.
Why is Spider-Man: Brand New Day being filmed in Glasgow?
Glasgow has become something of a hotspot for Hollywood producers. In recent years, filming of Robert Pattinson's The Batman took place in Glasgow, with JJ Abrams' next project starring Samuel L. Jackson, Glen Powell, Jenna Ortega, and Emma Mackey currently filming in the Scottish city, too. But why?
Well, Glasgow was actually one of the first cities in the world to adopt a grid-like system á la New York City. Except, as stated, Glasgow did it first in the 18th century, with NYC and the like copying. In turn, this means a lot of parts of Glasgow actually resemble NYC and make for a great alternative for film producers and directors to capture the hustle and bustle of the Big Apple to the big screen, without the headache of actually filming there.
Little is known about Spider-Man: Brand New Day, other than Peter Parker was left with a pretty hefty decision about his identity at the end of No Way Home.
Set to release on next year on July 31 (touch wood), hopefully in the coming months we'll be getting more insight about the plot of the film, returning cast members, and maybe some sneaky pictures from the set.
