Fast and Furious is accelerating onto 4DX screens and these are 5 scenes we can’t wait to relive

The Fast and the Furious movies have come at us quicker than a wheel-spinning rally car, with the franchise releasing a new instalment every two to three years. It’s hard to believe the first one came out 25 years ago, but we’re celebrating that quarter-century milestone with a screening of the 2001 illegal street racing movie in 4DX.

Think this is a high-octane movie? Think again. Because until you've seen The Fast and the Furious in 4DX, you haven't experienced just how exhilarating this film can be. It’s almost as though it was made for 4DX, even though 4DX didn’t come along until later.

Especially with the franchise set to conclude with Fast & Furious 11, currently expected to hit screens in 2028.

Exhilarating films need thrilling formats, so we give you the chance to watch the film in the most immersive way possible: a screening of The Fast and the Furious in 4DX. Time to put your pedal to the metal. Click below for the ultimate experience.

Here are the scenes we’re gearing up for, starting with our top five heart-pounding favourites:

The first race – ‘Dude, I almost had you’

Brian needs the respect of the racers, and the crowds they’re all trying to impress. The only way to do that is to drive, and his first race with Dom is where it all begins. You’ll feel like you’re sitting right alongside him as you feel the wind from 4DX in your hair – or is it through the car window?

The cars speed past with bright white headlights, emphasised by strobe lighting in the cinema. The pistons, the speed, the hiss, the steam: you’re right in the middle of it. And then – the welds blow and bolts clink to the floor all while the car’s moving at high speed. Feel a horrible juddering in your seat as the metal plate falls out, sparking out on the road.

The pistons are fried, and the car lurches from side to side, spinning out of control. And through your seat you feel everything.

Hijacking at high-speed – ‘Take the wheel! Hang on Vince!’

A shot hits Dom’s car and steam shoots in his face; feel the force of that in 4DX as he struggles to see the road through the smoke. Hijacking hasn’t worked, so the driver fights back. The wind effects match the highway speeds. Vince clings to the truck for his life. Brian goes in for the save. The truck driver blasts the shotgun, smashing through his window directly at Brian’s face. Strobe lighting flashes as Brian leaps onto his car, and it swerves down the bank.

It had to be heroic, because cover is blown, and the betrayal on Dom’s face says it all. A moment of stillness follows, apart from the breeze of the helicopter blades, as Dom drives away with Mia, leaving Brian standing there.

Welcome to Race Wars

This is the moment racers from across the region come to watch and compete in intense drag races. Get ready for your seat to rumble as the cars start. As the music kicks in, your heart starts to pound. Dom’s crew is there, and so is rival Johnny Tran.

Where rally cars leave clouds of dust behind them, the scent of the desert and the atmosphere will be visceral in 4DX. Feel that acceleration again and again as multiple races start up and launch.

The final race – ‘I owe you a 10-second car’

It’s all hanging on this: Brian and Dom’s last race, the climax of the movie as they settle everything from behind the wheel. From the first engine revs, you'll feel every surge of power through your seat with intense vibrations that put you right in the driver's seat.

Get a whiff of burning rubber as tyres tear over the tarmac and brace yourself as they near the train track and the barriers go down. That massive jolt as it crashes, metal on metal as car meets train. Feel the impact through your seat in 4DX.

‘Smoke ’em’

Stopping at traffic lights, Dom and Brian admire the car next to them, ‘nice car, what’s the retail on that?’; the driver slams it back with a diss: ‘more than you can afford, pal’. Dom turns to Brian and says, ‘Smoke ’em’, and smoke ’em Brian does. Watching this in 4DX will be like being in the back seat; your chair will tilt as the traffic lights switch from red to green and the cars roar off down the road.

Feel the race as the car weaves in and out of traffic; experience the thrill and the danger as 4DX ups the ante. This is what jeopardy feels like, every second of the chase.
