Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey is an epic voyage best seen in IMAX, 4DX, and Superscreen

Christopher Nolan is no stranger to taking on stories of epic proportions, but none feel quite as grandeur as the ancient Greek tale of Odysseus. Setting out on a dangerous journey home to Ithaca after twenty years following the Trojan war, Odysseus and his army encounter many mythical creatures. Meanwhile, at home, his wife Penelope and son Telemachus attempt to thwart attempted claims upon the throne.

When one thinks of Christopher Nolan, they cannot help but think of IMAX. Another Filmed for IMAX title, Nolan’s The Odyssey is also coming home to the big screen at Cineworld in 4DX and Superscreen, too.

With tickets now on sale and The Odyssey releasing on 17th July, here’s what you can expect when watching in each special format.

IMAX screens the size of laestrygonians

Really, there’s no way anyone could do The Odyssey without IMAX, especially when you consider the large scale, equal amounts magnificent and terrifying mythical beasts Odysseus and his army must take on. The only way is IMAX to depict the sheer size of the Laestrygonians and the monstrous, all-seeing sight of the Cyclops.

There’s no Nolan without IMAX, and this Filmed for IMAX title is the first feature to be filmed entirely using IMAX film cameras. And it brings in new IMAX technology, too. These cameras are lighter and quieter than previous models, and utilised more than 610kilometres of film.

With all these components, just about any film set could look brilliant, but Christopher Nolan kept it to the real world and filmed in some colosally beautiful locations, including in Morocco and across Greece.

Get swallowed in the charybdis 4DX whirlpool

A voyage is afoot, and there’s no experience quite like watching The Odyssey in 4DX. Extreme cinema brings the edge to your viewing experience, and will make you feel like you’re right there as a part of Odysseus’ army as it sails perilous seas and fights off barbaric beasts.

From the Charybdis whirlpool to flashbacks back to Troy, your seat will move to mirror the action of the screen, as well as water, wind, and light effects consuming your Cineworld 4DX screen. Don’t just watch an epic journey, be a part of it.

Don’t have an IMAX screen near you? Cineworld’s Superscreen is for you, offering a ginormous screen that spans from wall-to-wall, floor to ceiling, offering the perfect canvas for Christopher Nolan’s latest masterpiece.

As we voyage back to the ancient Greek times, the brilliant landscapes, legendary battle scenes, and A-list acting are to be seen on a screen worthy of these spectacular proportions.

With a cast list almost as long as The Odyssey’s running time (Matt Damon, Anne Hathaway, Charlize Theron, Zendaya, Tom Holland, and Robert Pattinson to name but a few), there are bound to be a few Oscar nominees in this blockbuster. Super talented people deserve to be seen on a Superscreen.
