Do you feel old? We kind of do. This year Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone turns 25 years old, first released all the way back in 2001. But just like low-rise jeans and velour tracksuits, Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone is making a comeback – to the big screen. And at Cineworld you can also choose to watch it in 4DX.

We meet Rubeus Hagrid
Hagrid, played by the late, great Robbie Coltrane, has a pretty dramatic and spectacular entry to the story. After the Dursleys run away to a remote island to escape the incessant letters from Hogwarts, Hagrid takes matter into his own eyes to hand deliver the invitation to Harry. He blasts through the depleted wooden door, sending it crashing to the floor, the weather outside suitably stormy for the night a half-giant crosses your threshold.
Let’s face it, in 4DX this will be epic. The rain will be pouring (but not that much, don’t worry), lights will be flashing, and you can expect your seats to rumble with the thunder.
Harry chooses his wand at Ollivander’s
Is there a moment more magical than when Harry chooses his wand – or, rather, the wand chooses him. Curious, you might say. Especially given, as Ollivander reveals the brother of the wand gave Harry his scar. But before that, there’s a magical flash of golden light, wind flicking Harry’s scruffy black hair, a bewildered look taking over his face.
Imagine this milestone moment in Harry’s life back on the big screen, and feel a touch of the same rushing magic he does as he receives his wand from Ollivander.
Journeying to Hogwarts
Make sure you’ve got your cinema snacks sorted, because Harry and Ron’s assortment of treats will have your mouth watering. From riding the Hogwarts Express for the first time to the first year’s boat ride across the Great Lake to Hogwarts – not to mention running through the wall to Platform 9 ¾ – you’ll be Wingardium Leviosa’ing out of your 4DX seats as they vibrate and sway with the motions seen on screen.
Harry takes to flying – and becomes Seeker
Harry Potter first learns to fly on a broomstick in his first lesson with Madame Hooch. Turns out he’s a natural, taking to the sky to rescue Neville and his rembebrall from his new nemesis, Draco Malfoy.
Just imagine the belly flipping joy of watching this scene – and Harry’s first Quidditch match – in 4DX, with 4DX chairs able to swoop and soar to mimic a broomstick’s course. Epic. If only all his peers could be so naturally talented...
Through the trap door
In an attempt to get to the Philosopher's Stone before Snape can allegedly use it, Harry, Ron, and Hermione venture through the trap door manned by the Fluffy, the three-headed dog. There they find puzzles they must work out.
Feel the whizzing of flying keys and the moment Ron is flung from a giant stone knight chess piece in 4DX.
From the thunder of trolls in the dungeon to flying Harry’s Nimbus 2000, there are so many atmospheric moments in Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone that will be truly unbelievable in 4DX.
