What is the plot of One Night Only?
In a world where you can only have pre-martial sex legally one night of the year, Allie and bartender Owen stumble into each other. Not simply looking for a quick fumble, hopeless romantic Allie and recently heartbroken Owen might just be the only single people in New York City looking for something more. But love never did run smooth, with a series of side quests adding obstacles to their potential love story.
Why is everyone talking about One Night Only – and what does it have to do with The Purge?
One Night Only has been getting quite a lot of buzz lately ahead of its release later this month, most amusingly because of comparisons of its premise to the horror franchise The Purge. While One Night Only’s hook is altogether more wholesome – as wholesome as an alternative universe in which a day dedicated to legal pre-martial sex exists – The Purge is set in a dystopia in which there is an annual 12-hour period in which there is a free-for-all to commit crime, including murder. So yeah, they couldn’t be two more different movies, but it is a hilarious comparison all the same.

When is the One Night Only release date?
One Night Only is being released at Cineworld on 28th August. Unlimited members can watch it early, though, with a special screening taking place for membership holders on 24th August.

One Night Only features some fun Anyone But You Easter eggs
Given Will Gluck is the writer-director behind one of the most successful romantic comedies in recent times, it makes sense he’d want to flex that – and he did with some fun Easter eggs in One Night Only.
Callum Turner’s character, Owen, goes on a date with Maya Hawke, who shows him a picture of her hot neighbour. And who is the man in question? Glen Powell, of course. We also see Owen swiping through a dating app and matching with one Sydney Sweeney.
Fans of Haim are likely to enjoy the soundtrack
Este Haim will make a cameo in One Night Only, both in front of your eyes and for your ears. Este Haim worked with Christopher Stracey on the film score. A three-song EP has been released and features a medley track of One Night Only’s film score, as well as a cover of “Love is in the Air” performed by King Princess, and a new original song from the New Radicals.
