Date night is sorted at Cineworld this Valentine's Day

It’s that time of the year where it’s socially acceptable to embrace all the romantic tropes (although we say celebrate them unabashedly all year round). Whether you’re celebrating platonic love on Galentines with your mates or organising a date night with your partner, here are all the ways Cineworld is here to help you celebrate Valentine’s Day.

Watch classic movies A Knight’s Tale and Sleepless in Seattle this Valentine’s Day

From stories that sound like they’ve come straight out of a fairytale to the golden age of romantic comedies in the early 90s, Cineworld is screening some very on theme movies over Valentine’s Day.

On the 13th February, you can book to watch the 25th Anniversary showing of A Knight’s Tale, crisply restored into 4K. Starring Heath Ledger as William Thatcher, a peasant who attempts to turn around his poor fortune by entering into joust tournaments following the death of his master.

A rags to riches story, there must of course be a little romantic dalliance, with William competing against Count Adhemar of Anjou for a noblewoman, Jocelyn’s, heart. But will it end happily ever after? You’ll have to watch to find out.

Also on the line-up for Cupid’s big day, you can watch the queen of romance, Nora Ephron’s Sleepless in Seattle on 14th February. Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan star as the widowed Sam Baldwin and the engaged journalist Annie Reed, who falls in love with the former when she hears him pour his heart out about his beautiful marriage.

Another will they, won’t they, this goes down as one of the ultimate romantic comedies – and if you haven’t seen it yet now is your chance!

Make date night extra romantic with swoon-worthy new releases

There are a number of exciting new releases you can watch that perfectly fit the bill in pulling on your heart strings – though we have to warn you a lot of them aren’t the gooey love story you might associate with this time of year.

First up, fancy balling your eyes out this Valentine’s Day (or not, if you’re anything like me), then Hamnet is a beautiful meditation on the stories we choose to tell and the ways in which we grieve. It features here, because it is a fictionalised version of how Agnes and her famous playwright husband met, and how their marriage wavered with the death of their son, Hamnet.

For the pal hangs this Valentine’s Day, why not head to Cineworld to watch Wuthering Heights? While I’m not sure this fits the bill of love story either, there’s still plenty of yearning, passion (and ample toxicity!) to suit the occasion.

BOOK WUTHERING HEIGHTS TICKETS

Of course, you don’t have to go for something strictly in the romance-adjacent category. There are plenty of great blockbusters out that will make for a fun date night. Send Help is a fun, genre-defying horror that’ll have you equal parts howling with laughter and with fear.

Or for something epic, check out James Cameron’s Avatar: Fire and Ash, the third instalment in the franchise.
