Our favourite toys are back! And we can’t be the only ones beside ourselves with excitement. We can't wait for the friendships, the heart-warming stories, and the adventures. But with adventure comes jeopardy and threat. And those toys have really put us through it over the years. From the destructive boy next door Sid, in the first Toy Story film to Lotso the bear from Sunnyside Daycare in 3.
So what kind of threat does Toy Story 5 have in store for us? It's the seemingly age-old but still going strong argument about tech versus toys, screentime vs fresh air. The threat of tech arrives in the form of Lilypad, a frog-shaped tablet who demands all the attention of their beloved human, Bonnie.
Bonnie only has eyes for Lilypad not least because tech is what all the cool kids are into. By the end of Toy Story 4, Woody’s out in the field saving the many toys that have been cast aside as kids reached for their screens, phones and consoles. So Jessie puts out a distress call to her old friend, appealing for his help. It's Woody to the rescue, of course, but they've never dealt with a problem like this before. Just how will Buzz, Jessie and the gang deal with the pull of the screen?
So what are you waiting for, friend? Book yourself a seat for this latest adventure. Toy Story 5 arrives at Cineworld on 19th June.
Just how much bigger can Woody’s eyes get when he’s surprised? Let’s find out in IMAX
The fact that these silent, lifeless little dudes in the nursery come alive at all still blows our minds – so imagine Woody 10 metres high! IMAX screens are massive. Big enough to see every thread of Woody’s waistcoat, every tiny flicker of emotion across his face and even [spoiler incoming] the sheen of his bald patch! Yes, Woody’s starting to lose his hair. (This cowboy's had a lot to contend with, over the years.)
So settle back in your cinema seat and enjoy the sight of your heroes and heroines towering over you from the IMAX screen. Just be prepared for the enemies being super-sized too. Lilypad's gonna be ginormous, and not just physically, because it follows that the threat Lilypad represents is going to seem insurmountable. No wonder Bonnie can’t take her eyes off her.
Jessie gallops to the rescue – watching in 4DX is like hitching a ride on Bullseye
In the trailer we see Jessie leading the charge and the toys thundering behind her in support. At a 4DX viewing you’re going to feel the force of every tiny, determined foot and hoof as it hits the floor and the gang go in for the save. Those little guys really go all in when it comes to the chase.
Scenes as exciting as this are made for 4DX. Feel every jolt and bump of the big-motion moments through the seat as you go on the same thrilling ride as the toys. Talk about edge of your seat! This really is heart-in-the-mouth stuff.
Step into Toy Story with SCREENX
With films as beloved as Toy Story you want total immersion into the story world. You wish the characters would somehow step out of the screen. But even the magic of cinema can’t make this possible. SCREENX, though, goes some way to create the illusion.
At key points in the story, the screen gets bigger on both sides. Extra visuals are projected onto the screen edges, widening out the world. So the nursery will become enormous and the world outside will appear huge during moments of jeopardy.
Everything’s brighter in Superscreen
If you’ve never considered watching a film in a special format before you might want to consider Toy Story 5 in Superscreen. This is exactly the kind of movie that shines in this format. Sound and vision are delivered in the highest definition possible, and everything is elevated. The colours and contrast are vibrant – those little green aliens are going to pop! Forky and his handmade companion will look bold and beautiful, pipe cleaners, wonky monobrow and all.
If you thought you couldn’t love Toy Story more than you already do, think again because watching in a premium format will be a truly awesome experience, for you and the kids. Go all in with the family and book a seat at a big-screen experience and you'll leave feeling even closer to Woody and his pals.
