May half-term family movies at Cineworld

May half-term is here is, and – unless you’re going on holiday – you’re going to need something to do to keep the kids entertained, especially with the weather taking a turn for the worst across the UK. Whether you're after big-screen blockbusters, laugh-out-loud family adventures, or simply a comfy seat and a bucket of popcorn, the cinema provides a fun, fuss-free outing with family movies to suit all ages.

In fact, if you've got a Tesco Clubcard you can get £4 tickets at Cineworld from now until June 8 on 2D screenings on up to 4 tickets. You can also enjoy a regular popcorn and drink for £6, or upgrade it to a large for £1.

There are some cracking movies showing at Cineworld during the half-term break, ranging from action blockbusters to Disney adventures. To help you plan your itinerary, we’ve rounded up the best offerings.

1. Thunderbolts*

The new MCU release has gone down a storm with critics and movie fans alike, with one reviewer describing it as “the best Marvel movie in years”. Directed by Jake Schreier, Thunderbolts* sees Florence Pugh’s Russian assassin Yelena Belova lead a team of super-powered misfits on a dangerous mission that turns out to be a trap. With emotional depth and action sequences aplenty, it’s a must-watch on the big screen.

2. A Minecraft Movie

If you still haven’t seen this movie adaptation of the iconic videogame, then you’d best book your tickets now before it’s too late. Directed by Jared Hess, A Minecraft Movie stars Jack Black as Steve, a master crafter who, as a young man, mined his way into a strange cubic land called the Overworld. Years later, when a group of strangers led by Jason Momoa are accidentally transported there, Steve is called upon to help them return home. Hilarious and action-packed, this super spin-off is everything we hoped it would be.

3. Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning

Tom Cruise is back in the eighth and probably final instalment of the all-action franchise. Directed by Christopher McQuarrie, Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning sees Ethan Hunt and his gang attempting to quash the threat of AI villain The Entity once and for all. With Simon Pegg, Ving Rhames and co also returning, and Cruisey pulling off some of his most outrageous stunts to date, this is one Mission you definitely don’t want to pass up.

4. Lilo & Stitch

More than two decades after the franchise first appeared on US TV, Disney has finally got round to making a live-action movie of Lilo & Stitch – and it looks thoroughly entertaining. Newcomer Maia Kealoha plays Lilo, the orphaned girl who adopts what turns out to be an alien genetic experiment, while the franchise’s co-creator Chris Sanders is, as ever, the voice of Stitch. If the trailer is anything to go by, there’ll be mischief and mayhem by the bucketload.

Karate Kid: Legends (showing from May 30th)

It’s 41 years since “Wax on, wax off” became a popular playground phrase in the wake of The Karate Kid’s release, but the franchise is still going strong – thanks in no small part to the success of spin-off TV show Cobra Kai. Directed by Jonathan Entwistle, this sixth film in the series sees Ralph Macchio and Jackie Chan mentoring a former martial arts prodigy who’s being bullied by a local champion. If it’s anything like the aforementioned telly phenomenon, then Karate Kid: Legends should pack one hell of a punch.
