A new door is opening into the Insidious universe as the sixth instalment, Insidious: Out of the Further, lands at Cineworld on 21st August. This time around, we won’t just be delving into the spirit world – it might well be that that world is bleeding into ours.

What is the plot of Insidious: Out of the Further?
Insidious: Out of the Further brings to life the possibility of the spirits escaping the Further. Centering around a new family, Gemma is a single mother raising her daughter in her childhood home, and discovers she has the ability to enter the Further.
However, she can also bring these dark entities back into the real world. Now it’s not so much about haunted houses, but the horrors siphoning into everyday life as the entities make the whole world their playground.

Following a delay, in which Insidious: Out of the Further was meant to be released back in 2025, the film will now arrive at Cineworld on 21st August.

Where does Insidious: Out of the Further fit in the Insidious timeline?
Insidious: Out of the Further is a direct sequel to Insidious: The Red Door, the last film in the franchise, which came out three years ago. That said, it does function as somewhat of a reset for the franchise, moving away from the Lambert family storyline, which concluded in The Red Door, and introducing a new family with their own unique elements.
The thing that keeps the franchise connected is Lin Shaye returning as Elise, the psychic medium, the spiritual backbone of the horror series.
The sixth Insidious film was going to be called something different
Originally, this instalment in the Insidious franchise was going to be called Insidious: The Bleeding World. However, along with a delayed release, it was renamed in early 2026 to Insidious: Out of the Further.
