What is the plot of Insidious: Out of the Further?

Insidious: Out of the Further brings to life the possibility of the spirits escaping the Further. Centering around a new family, Gemma is a single mother raising her daughter in her childhood home, and discovers she has the ability to enter the Further.

However, she can also bring these dark entities back into the real world. Now it’s not so much about haunted houses, but the horrors siphoning into everyday life as the entities make the whole world their playground.

Insidious franchise release order

The Insidious franchise comprises two sequels as well as the present day timeline, though it’s recommended you watch the franchise in release order if you’re watching for the first time.

  • Insidious (2010)
  • Insidious: Chapter 2 (2013)
  • Insidious: Chapter 3 (2015) – prequel
  • Insidious: The Last Key (2018) – prequel
  • Insidious: The Red Door (2023)
  • Insidious: Out of the Further (2026)

Where does Insidious: Out of the Further fit in the Insidious timeline?

Insidious: Out of the Further is a direct sequel to Insidious: The Red Door, the last film in the franchise, which came out three years ago. That said, it does function as somewhat of a reset for the franchise, moving away from the Lambert family storyline, which concluded in The Red Door, and introducing a new family with their own unique elements.

The thing that keeps the franchise connected is Lin Shaye returning as Elise, the psychic medium, the spiritual backbone of the horror series.

The sixth Insidious film was going to be called something different

Originally, this instalment in the Insidious franchise was going to be called Insidious: The Bleeding World. However, along with a delayed release, it was renamed in early 2026 to Insidious: Out of the Further.

There are some horror powerhouses behind Insidious: Out of the Further

Insidious: Out of the Further is produced by Jason Blum (Paranormal Activity, The Purge) and James Wan (Saw, The Conjuring), as well as Leigh Whannell and Oren Peli.
