A Minecraft Movie (showing now)
Jared Hess’s long-awaited adaptation of the global gaming phenomenon stars Jack Black as Steve, a master crafter who’s called upon to help a group of misfits return home when they’re unexpectedly transported into the Overworld. Sinners (showing now)
Set in the Deep South during the 1930s, Sinners centres around two brothers (both played by Michael B. Jordan) who return to their hometown to escape their troubles, only to discover a much greater evil waiting for them when they get there. One of the year’s most talked-about movies so far, Ryan Coogler’s supernatural horror has been described as “scary, sexy, gory and horny”. You have been warned!

Ever wanted to know what it feels like to be a soldier in an actual combat situation? Ray Mendoza and Alex Garland’s film provides the answer. Based on the former’s experiences as a Navy SEAL during the Iraq War, this gripping drama follows a group of US commandos in real-time as they embark on a daring mission through insurgent territory. Harrowing and poignant in equal measures, Warfare is an experience you’ll never forget.

Based on Robert Littell’s 1981 novel of the same name, The Amateur sees Bohemian Rhapsody star Remi Malek playing a CIA cryptographer who vows to get revenge when his wife is killed in a terrorist attack. It may be only James Hawes’ second feature film, but this slick, pacy thriller is as expertly handled as anything we’ve seen recently.

Widowed mother Violet (Meghann Fahy) is on a date when a mysterious phone message instructs her to kill the man sitting opposite her at the table – or her family will be murdered. Described on Rotten Tomatoes as “a Hitchcockian thriller that cleverly utilises modern technology for its twists and turns”, Christopher Landon’s Drop is a true nail-biter.
The Penguin Lessons (showing now)
Steve Coogan and a penguin? What more could you possibly want! Directed by Peter Cattaneo (The Full Monty) and based on a true story, The Penguin Lessons is an endearing comedy drama that sees the Alan Partridge star playing a boarding schoolteacher in Argentina who strikes up an unlikely friendship with a penguin after rescuing it from an oil slick. As you might expect from a Coogan film, laugh-out-loud moments abound.

The Accountant 2 (showing now)
Gavin O’Connor’s follow-up to his 2016 action thriller, The Accountant 2 sees Ben Affleck reprising his role as an uber-smart assassin. This time around, he and his lethal brother (Jon Bernthal) are tasked with solving the murder of a Treasury Agent’s close friend. But as they get closer to the truth, they find themselves being hunted by a gang of ruthless killers…

Derived from the videogame of the same name, Shazam! director David F. Sandberg's creepy horror flick sees a group of young people investigating their friend's mysterious disappearance, only to find themselves getting stuck in an endless nightmare. Thunderbolts*
The latest Marvel blockbuster to blast onto the big screen, Thunderbolts* sees a ragtag team of anti-heroes being sent on a deadly mission that turns out to be a trap – and the only way to survive is by confronting some of the dark secrets from their past. Featuring some of the MCU’s most popular characters, including Yelena Belova (Florence Pugh), Taskmaster (Olga Kurylenko), The Void (Lewis Pullman) and Bucky Barnes (Sebastian Stan), Jake Schreier’s action adventure promises thrills galore.
Monty Python and the Holy Grail (50th Anniversary) (May 4th)
Get your dose of silliness by revisiting this revered 1975 movie – showing at Cineworld to mark its 50th anniversary. Adapted from Adam Cesare's 2020 horror novel of the same name, Clown in a Cornfield sees a group of rebellious teens being hunted by their town's homicidal mascot. Eli Craig's movie is an unmissable treat for slasher fans, featuring tension and jump scares by the bucketload.
The Surfer (May 9th)
When Nicolas's Cage's veteran wave rider takes his teenage son to an Australian beach that used to be his stomping ground, he finds that things aren't quite what they used to be. Described as "99 minutes of pure sun-beaten terror", Thomas Martin's psychological thriller will have you gripped from start to finish.
The Wedding Banquet (May 9th)
When a gay man strikes a deal of convenience with his lesbian friend, they get much more than they bargain for as her grandmother surprises them with a lavish Korean wedding. A remake of the 1993 film of the same name, Andrew Ahn's romcom has been described as "humorous and heartfelt".
Final Destination: Bloodlines (May 16th)
Filmed in IMAX, the first Final Destination movie in 14 years promises plenty of epic jumps and scares as a college student seeks help to try and stop a recurring nightmare about her family's gruesome demise from coming true. Zach Lipovsky and Adam Stein direct the latest instalment in the popular horror franchise.

Hurry Up Tomorrow (May 16th)
The new movie from Trey Edward Shults (Waves, It Comes At Night), Hurry Up Tomorrow stars Abel 'The Weeknd' Tesfaye as an insomniac musician on the brink of a mental breakdown who's taken on a surreal existential journey by a mysterious stranger. Jenna Ortega and Barry Keoghan also appear.
Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning
(May 21st)
Tom Cruise reunites with director Christopher McQuarrie for the eighth – and possibly last – instalment in the beloved action movie franchise. While plot details remain pretty sketchy at the time of going to press (you can read about what we know by clicking here), the stunts are reportedly bigger and better than ever.
Lilo & Stitch (May 21st)
Disney's long-running children's TV franchise is finally turned into a live-action film, with Dean Fleischer Camp directing. Co-creator Chris Sanders voices Stitch – the extraterrestrial-creature-cum-scientic-experiment who's adopted by Hawaiian orphan Lilo (Maia Kealoha). Expect cutesy laughs galore.
The Phoenician Scheme (May 23rd)
Wes Anderson's latest – like many of his movies – features an awesome ensemble cast, with Tom Hanks, Scarlett Johanssen, Benedict Cumberbatch and Bryan Cranston among those appearing in this darkly comic tale about a wealthy businessman who appoints his daughter – a nun – as the sole heir to his estate.
The Salt Path (May 30th)
Following a bad health diagnosis and a financial crisis, a middle-aged couple embark on an incredible 630-mile hike along the South West Coast Path. Marianne Elliott's autobiographical tale is already a bestselling book – now it's set to hit the big screen, with Gillian Anderson and Jason Isaacs in the main roles.
Karate Kid: Legends (May 30th)
Jonathan Entwhistle directs this sixth instalment in the Karate Kid series, which sees Ralph Macchio and Jackie Chan come to the aid of a young kung fu prodigy who's being picked on by a local karate champion. Expect plenty of breathtaking fight sequences, and most likely a quotable catchphrase or two...
The Ballad of Wallis Island (May 30th)
Co-written by Plebs creator Tom Basden and Tim Key (best-known as Alan Partridge's mate Sidekick Simon), this charming comedy sees a former folk star (Basden) being lured to a remote island to play a gig for a lonely fan (Key). James Griffiths's film promises to be one of the feelgood hits of the summer.
