The Looney Tunes have an esteemed history when it comes to blending live action with animation. Space Jam kicked the whole thing off with a basketball game for the ages, whilst Looney Tunes: Back in Action paired the colourful gang with Brendan Fraser and Jenna Elfman for a globetrotting adventure. More recently, Space Jam: A New Legacy saw the Tunes hit the basketball court once more, and now we’ve got a wildly inventive take on courtroom drama in Coyote vs. Acme.
Although we’re fans of any time we get to see the Looney Tunes on the big screen, the fervour around this film is particularly potent as the production started way back in 2018, giving ample time for the hype to reach a fever pitch. What is Coyote vs. Acme about?
As you may have already guessed from the title, things have soured somewhat between the Acme Corporation and one of its longest-standing customers. After countless attempts to catch Road Runner with Acme devices that have fallen foul at the last second, Wile E. Coyote has decided that he’s had enough and is going to sue Acme for all the damage their defective products have caused him over the years.
Who’s in the Coyote vs. Acme cast?
Wile E. Coyote is far from alone in his fight against Acme, as his lawyer Kevin Avery (played by Will Forte) is taking on his case. On the other side of the fence however is none other than John Cena as the Acme Corporation’s no-nonsense lawyer, Buddy Crane. Additional cast members include Lana Condor, Tone Bell and P.J. Byre, but as any Looney Tunes aficionado will love to hear, we’ll see plenty of classic characters such as Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck and Porky Pig making an appearance.

Because there’s been a sizeable wait for the film, the fandom is abuzz with excitement, and given the most recent reviews for Coyote vs. Acme, it isn’t hard to see why. The film currently has a 96% fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes, with one film critic calling it a “daft, inventive, hilarious comedy”.
Trivia: We have Coyote vs Acme to thank for Barbenheimer
Barbenheimer, the cultural phenomenon that encouraged cinemagoers everywhere to indulge in a double bill of Barbie and Oppenheimer, both of which launched on the same day, almost didn’t happen. Funnily enough, Coyote vs. Acme was originally slated to be the big Warner Bros. release that day before it was eventually moved and Barbie was brought forward to take its place. To think, there might be a parallel universe out there where Coyotenheimer is a thing, although it doesn’t roll off the tongue in quite the same way.
