There was a tangible sense of excitement on Saturday (8th March), as we hosted the latest of our Cineworld Secret Screenings – the 15th in this special series. As usual, those who attended had no idea what movie was going to show after the lights went down, but the anticipation was palpable as the opening frames of new action-comedy Novocaine appeared on the big screen. Directed by Dan Berk and Robert Olsen, the film stars Jack Quaid as a mild-mannered bank employee who feels no pain. When his co-worker and love interest (Amber Midthunder) is taken hostage during a robbery, Quaid sets off on a mission to rescue her.
The movie doesn't go on general release until 28 March (tickets go on sale this week), meaning people who came to the Secret Screening got to see it nearly three weeks ahead of schedule. But what did they think of it? Here are some of the comments that were made on social media after the showing...
Secret Screenings are open to everyone – keep an eye out on the Cineworld website and X feed for details of the next one.
This Secret Screening viewer was full of praise for Novocaine, and wholly recommended it to cinema goers...
Totally bonkers, funny and some cringe worthy moments that had me looking aways from the screen! Well worth checking out on the big screen when it's released. Thank for the early preview 👍🏻👍🏻

The movie ticked a lot of boxes for this viewer, too...
Very entertaining movie with a likeable lead and fun character dynamics (between Nathan and his friend, Nathan and the bank customer, and the detective partners). There’s a gently mocking kind of love towards the crime genre in the writing which I enjoyed. Good soundtrack too! 😄

This person loved the general feel of the film, but also singled out the lead actor...
A lot of fun, had some old school action comedy vibes and Jack Quaid bought a lot of charm to Nate. Some of the plot twists were a little too obvious but it was very entertaining

This cinema goer also left the auditorium feeling happy – and even compared the movie to an action classic...
Superb fun. Some really inventive moments, Quaid is fab and easily the best use of glass on the floor since Die Hard!

The dialogue between the characters really hit the spot for this Secret Screening attendee...
Action packed movie, fueled with banter. Added plot twist to keep you on your feet! It got it all!

This person bigged up the lead actress, and also hailed the physical set pieces...
Great fun. An inventive crime thriller which doesn't take itself too seriously. Amber Midthunder gives real Aubrey Plaza vibes and the fight choreography is really well done. An excellent evening out, thanks @cineworld

Finally, this viewer expressed his appreciation for Cineworld's Secret Screening initiative...
It was really good fun! Not something I would’ve probably chosen to go and see so I’m glad we came. I love Secret Screenings for this very reason 💖
