Hokum (1st May)

An Irish folk horror set in a remote inn where eerie folklore and sinister forces begin to surface. Not what the central character is banking on when he pitches up in a lonely part of Ireland to scatter his parents’ ashes. If you’re a sucker for a classic haunted house horror, then book your seats for Hokum.

That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime the Movie: Tears of the Azure Sea (1st May)

The successful Japanese anime TV series treats us to the next chapter in big-screen format. The action-packed story bridges the gap between the third and fourth seasons, giving us a polluted sea, an underwater princess trying to save her people and the kingdom on the surface world fighting to stop an invasion.

Mortal Kombat II (8th May)

The fight is far from over as the martial arts fantasy continues with a hard-hitting sequel. Champions clash in ferocious battles for the fate of Earthrealm, with Johnny Cage bringing swagger and lethal moves to the frontline. It’s going to be brutal.

Billie Eilish – Hit Me Hard And Soft: The Tour (8th May)

With a circular stage giving fans the ultimate sightline, Billie Eilish’s 2025 tour was a sell-out success. With the live show purposely staged to translate to cinema, those cuts are awesome to see in Billie and James Cameron’s docu-show, hitting Cineworld screens on 8th May. Pyrotechnics, cinematography, backstage footage and intimate moments with Billie will all hit hard.

The Sheep Detectives (8th May)

Hugh Jackman and Emma Thompson star in this live-action, comedy mystery, and Bryan Cranston and Bella Ramsey are among the stellar voice cast. This solid raft of actors brings us a fun film featuring a flock of sheep investigating the mysterious passing of their beloved shepherd. It’s a family-friendly whodunnit with dry humour and plenty of visual comedy as the sheep try and work out the humans’ odd behaviour.

The Mandalorian & Grogu (22nd May)

Din Djarin and Grogu are back, teaming up once more to take on the Imperial warlords, and fans can’t wait to see the galaxy’s most beloved duo reunite on the big screen. This cinematic chapter neatly bridges the story between The Mandalorian TV series and the wider Star Wars universe, giving audiences a chance to experience their adventures in full, galaxy-spanning style.

Backrooms (29th May)

What happens when a weird doorway that wasn’t there before suddenly appears? Add to this an eerie basement setting in a furniture showroom and you know this psych-horror about liminal spaces is about to take you to creepsville.

Power Ballad (29th May)

Oh good. A feelgood film to look forward to. We need this! Let’s collectively look forward to a comedy drama with music in the mix. Already a winner, after closing the Dublin International Film Festival, Power Ballad depicts a rock star and wedding singer in a tale of conflict around ambition, self-respect and friendship.

My Mother’s Wedding (29th May)

Scarlett Johansson, Sienna Miller and Emily Beecham star in a film as three sisters returning home to celebrate their widowed mother’s wedding. First-time director Kirsten Scott Thomas also appears on screen, in a story where the women’s very different lives come into play.

So there you have it. That's May in a nutshell. If any, or indeed all of those films take your fancy, then it's worth hitting up Cineworld's Unlimited offer to make the month of May your very own cinefest.
