The work of legendary playwright Alan Bennett is back on the big screen in the poignant dramedy Allelujah. The movie is based on Bennett's 2018 stage production of the same name and features a remarkable ensemble of iconic British names including Judi Dench, Jennifer Saunders and Derek Jacobi.
The film strikes a topical nerve with its story of an English hospital under threat of closure. The narrative takes an intimate look at the lives of both the nurses and the patients in one particular geriatric ward, instilling the value of the NHS.
Allelujah screened in advance for Cineworld Unlimited members last night and we wanted to know what they thought of it. Here are a few of their responses.
Very emotional, really current. Amazing movie, extremely important issues addressed. It's going to really touch many people in many different ways.

Well it certainly took a bit of a turn at the end! And the last few minutes were a real punch in the stomach about the importance of the NHS, and not to let people try to get rid of it.

Some fantastic performances from the cast, rather emotional for many reasons and I wasn't expecting the way the story went. Thanks for another enjoyable #UnlimitedScreening.

Much darker than I was expecting based on the trailer, and takes the viewer In many unexpected directions, with some biting statements from the playwright & screenwriter at its core. Jennifer Saunders carries the lead role well.

Wasn't expecting it to go down the road it did that's for sure. Glad to see some support towards the NHS in mainstream media. Just wanted more Judi Dench😢

Sweet film, not quite what the trailers suggested but a beautiful love letter to our wonderful NHS, utterly undercut and ruined by a ridiculous twist that added nothing. Such a shame as it was great for the main part.
