Is The End of Oak Street a dinosaur movie? Here’s everything we know so far – cast, release date, and trailer details

Is it a film about a bird? Or a plane? Is it Jurassic Park? No, it’s The End of Oak Street! It explores what happens when you wake up to find a dinosaur at the end of your road.

The earth has literally caved in on your suburban street, and you’re trapped in a Jurassic-on-steroids world. You run for your lives and try to warn your neighbour to get back inside, but a dinosaur just chomped on by and bit off their head.

That’s the gist of this dino-horror mash-up, which has genuinely high production values and looks very entertaining. This sci-fi thriller has a 12A certificate too, so it’s a good one for families with age-appropriate kids.

What is The End of Oak Street about?

You know those plots centring around families who move to suburbia only to find evil awaits beneath the normality? The End of Oak Street moves the Platt family’s suburban street into the Jurassic era – with terrifying (for the Platts) and entertaining (for us) consequences.

The key to this family’s survival is to stick together. So no matter how much you hate mom and dad, no matter how much your sister riles you, you have to get along in order to live.

Who is in the cast (or who is in danger of getting a dino bite)?

Anne Hathaway (Denise Platt)

Ewan McGregor (Greg Platt)

Maisy Stella (Audrey Platt)

Christian Convery (Brian Platt)

When can I go and see The End of Oak Street?

The End of Oak Street is in cinemas from 14 August.

Just how did dinosaurs get to be stomping around suburbia in the first place??

The director of It Follows, David Robert Mitchell, is a writer-director. On a walk around his neighbourhood in Michigan one day, he spotted an ordinary-looking trash can and a garage, which sparked the thought: “It’d be really interesting if there was a dinosaur right there”, he told Entertainment Weekly. And so he wrote the script.

We heard JJ Abrahams is involved, haven’t heard his name in a while…

JJ Abrams has mostly been in TV. This is his first film since Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker in 2019. He’s producing The End of Oak Street, and we’re excited about that.

How close is Oak Street to Jurassic Park?

While Mitchell has professed his love and appreciation of the Spielberg classic and the dino franchise as a whole, he also looked to Twilight Zone and Poltergeist for inspiration for this film, he told Entertainment Weekly.
