Nicolas Cage is certainly going through a 'Cageaissance' at the moment following diverse and acclaimed performances in the likes of Pig and The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent.
The singular star, distinguished by memorably eccentric performances in the classic likes of Face/Off and Leaving Las Vegas (for which he won an Oscar), continues his hot streak in the offbeat new drama Dream Scenario. Lucky Unlimited members get to see the film this November in advance of its release date, so if you know any Cage obsessives, this is the perfect opportunity to induce a sense of FOMO.
The movie comes from indie stalwarts A24 who have already produced a raft of contemporary gems including Hereditary, Moonlight and Aftersun. Dream Scenario stars Cage as a rumpled college professor who realises that he's become a part of people's dreams. Expect a trenchant and witty critique of celebrity culture in this darkly comic satire that also stars Julianne Nicholson and Michael Cera.
The movie is produced by Hereditary filmmaker Ari Aster and has generated strong reviews from this year's festival circuit. In his review for The Guardian, Charles Bramesco labelled it "a smart black comedy", adding: "In a career chockablock with head cases, weirdoes, volatile inscrutables, cracked-mirror self-parodies, and other assorted voyagers along the far reaches of human behavior, the surrealist Dream Scenario deals Nicolas Cage the last challenge he has yet to conquer: portraying the most normal man in the world."
