"I'm going to tear you apart from the inside," growls the villainous Ultron (James Spader) in the latest trailer for Avengers: Age of Ultron. He's referring to our superhero contingent of Iron Man/Tony Stark, Thor, Captain America/Steve Rogers, Hulk/Bruce Banner, Black Widow/Natasha Romanoff and Hawkeye/Clint Barton, for whom things are about to get very dark indeed.
The new promo for Joss Whedon's superpowered sequel teases more of Ultron's evil plan, as he plots to turn our heroes against one another. This presumably ties in to the eagerly anticipated inclusion of the Hulkbuster armour, designed by Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) to go toe to toe with Banner's (Mark Ruffalo) rampaging, green alter-ego.
Ultron's creation is also hinted at. "This vulnerable world needs something more powerful than any of us," Stark explains of his decision to create a sentient, peaceful artificial intelligence. However, his plan backfires when Ultron rises up to become the greatest threat the world has ever known – no doubt leading to much anguish and conflict within the film itself.
Other cool vignettes include a brief glimpse at an unexpectedly tender moment between Hulk and Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson), some obligatory exposition from S.H.I.E.L.D. head honcho Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) and shots of the cool powers wielded by new faces Quicksilver (Aaron Taylor-Johnson) and Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen). No news yet though on who Andy Serkis is playing.
Featuring plenty of fanboy-pleasing action and tantalising hints at the ongoing future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the trailer promises great things from Avengers: Age of Ultron. Take a look yourself and prepare to be excited. The film is released on 25th April.
