Insanity is catching in the forthcoming Joker sequel, Joker: Folie à Deux. Joaquin Phoenix returns to his Oscar-winning role as Arthur Fleck, the tormented clown turned unlikely criminal mastermind who succeeded in instigating a full-bore Gotham riot.
At the end of Joker, Arthur was locked up inside Arkham Asylum. In Joker: Folie a Deux, we see where he's at, primarily through the lens of his relationship with his psychiatrist Harleen Quinzel (Lady Gaga), who later becomes Arthur's twisted partner-in-crime Harley Quinn.
Writer-director Todd Phillips has revealed some eye-grabbing new Instagram shots that tease the movie's (very) bad romance. The movie's title translates from the French as 'a madness shared by two' and that's certainly fitting given Joker and Harley Quinn's tormented comic book history.
Joker: Folie à Deux has also been described by Phillips as a musical. With Lady Gaga featuring, how could it not be? The movie's supporting cast includes Brendan Gleeson, Catherine Keener, Jacob Lofland and Harry Lawtey with Zazie Beetz set to reprise her role as Arthur's old neighbour Sophie.
The movie is scheduled for release on October 4th, 2024 and we'll bring you a breakdown of the first trailer when it arrives. If that's too long to wait, sate yourself with our list of 2024's must-see comic book releases.
