We're used to the latest Marvel movie being touted as 'the best one yet' – in fact, it happened this summer with Guardians of the Galaxy, which won over both fans and newcomers alike with its wonderfully off-the-wall humour.
But when said praise comes from the mouth of a certain Robert Downey Jr., it's worth sitting up and taking notice. He was discussing Avengers: Age of Ultron, Joss Whedon's follow-up to 2012's Avengers Assemble (which was also cited as one of the greatest Marvel movies on its release).
Downey Jr. returns as fast-talking Tony Stark/Iron Man, who must once again team up with Thor, Captain America, Hulk, Black Widow and Hawkeye to stop villainous A.I. Ultron from taking over the world. In an interview whilst promoting his new drama The Judge, Downey Jr. said we can expect great things from the superhero sequel.
"It may be the best Marvel movie, which is saying a lot because I thought Guardians of the Galaxy turned out great," Downey Jr. said. "[Captain America: The Winter Soldier] was great too. There'll be some surprises coming."
On their own terms, Downey Jr.'s words don't give anything substantial away. But when one considers he's the poster boy for Marvel as a whole, one who helped steer the first three Iron Man movies to enormous success, it's hard not to get a teensie-weensie bit excited.
Take a look at the full interview below. Avengers: Age of Ultron is released on 24th April 2015.
