IMAX, 4DX, ScreenX and Superscreen bring a whole new level of immersion

As with any film shown at Cineworld, A Minecraft Movie will look great in standard 2D. However, if you really want to take your viewing experience to the next level, then our special formats – IMAX, 4DX, ScreenX and Superscreen – are where it's at. Each one offers its own unique set of features designed to immerse you in the action, but whichever one you choose, we guarantee you'll be exhilarated.

Witness it on one of our gigantic IMAX screens, which combine razor-sharp visuals with heart-thumping, integrated sound for a spectacular and immersive experience. Or take the ultimate rollercoaster ride by watching it in 4DX, where movement is combined with multi-sensory effects such as wind, water and strobe lighting to thrust you right into the movie. With its unique, wraparound displays, ScreenX gives you a wider field of view that’ll really envelope you in the action. And finally, Superscreen will make every frame of the movie look like a work of art, enabling you to experience it just as the director intended. With A Minecraft Movie also looking fabulous in standard 2D, you’re spoilt for choice!

The plot is captivating from the word go

In the Minecraft game, you have to master a unique, cubic world using nothing but a few simple tools and a lot of imagination – and the storyline for this movie is along the same lines. It focuses on four misfits, led by Garrett ‘The Garbage Man’ Garrison, who are pulled through a mysterious portal into a strange cubic land named Overworld. Once there, they have to learn how it all works in order to find their way home, but not before they’ve protected Overworld from a series of nasties. Helping them along the way is a master crafter named Steve – but, ultimately, they each need to look inward to discover the skills that’ll help them escape and survive in the real world.

It's funny and action-packed

When the first trailer for A Minecraft Movie landed back in November (watch it above), we were instantly struck by how good it looked. The sets, the costumes, the animated creatures, the special effects… the whole thing just pops off the screen. There’s some stunning action, including an Indiana Jones-style minecart ride, a death-defying high dive and an awesome bombing raid. Add to all of that some chucklesome one-liners and facial expressions from the ever-reliable Jack Black, and it looks like A Minecraft Movie is going to be a humdinger!

It features a stellar cast

As befitting a film based around one of the greatest video games ever made, A Minecraft Movie features some of Hollywood’s most popular actors. Providing substantial screen presence as Garrett Garrison is Jason Momoa, while Steve is played by the always-watchable Jack Black. There are also brilliant turns from The Color Purple’s Danielle Brooks, veteran actress Jennifer Coolidge (American Pie, Legally Blonde), plus British comedy stars Matt Berry and Jemaine Clement.
