A Tamil-language political action thriller, Jana Nayagan stars Vijay as a cop who is reluctantly thrust into the spotlight when an abused child becomes the catalyst for his return to public life.
As he becomes a powerful symbol of resistance for those around him, others threatened by his rise try to bring him down.

What is the release date for Jana Nayagan?
The new release date is 24 July.
The film’s release was delayed by the CBFC after a few scenes and some dialogue raised concerns, prompting several rounds of scrutiny. Originally due on 9 January, it is now set for 24 July, with a rumoured release a day earlier in India.
During the delay, reports of a leaked copy sparked further headlines.
The certification remained the same, but 41 seconds of footage were added, bringing the runtime to 3 hours, 3 minutes, and 52 seconds. The producers are keeping the new footage closely guarded.
Is this really Vijay’s final film?
Vijay began as a child actor, became one of the highest-paid actors in India, and won multiple awards. From romance films to action films, he went on to star in some of the highest-grossing Tamil films.
As his film career prospered, his interest in politics became more visible. What began with an increasingly politically active fan base eventually led to the launch of his own political party.
After 69 films as lead actor, Vijay announced that Jana Nayagan was to be his last, as he turned his attention to politics. True to his word, during the lengthy delays of the political thriller, Vijay has now entered politics full-time.
