Ian McKellen fans are set to be thrilled by his latest film role. He stars as a celebrated artist whose reputation is fading after leaving his most famous works, known as The Christophers, unfinished.
With an eye on their inheritance, his adult children secretly commission another painter to complete the artworks, hoping to sell them on after his death. McKellen’s enigmatic artist is paired beautifully with Michaela Coel as the painter brought in to finish the job.
Directed by Steven Soderbergh (Ocean’s films), this smart comedy drama delivers unexpected twists in a story of clashing creative egos and scheming family dynamics. The Christophers screened last night for Cineworld Unlimited members, and we couldn’t wait to see what they thought.
A slower paced intriguing film that questions what the value and purpsose of art is. How we see an artist, how an artist sees the world, and how a critic can have a deeper impact than they realise. There were plenty of laughs in my screening which was great to hear.
