All the moments that Baby Yoda stole our hearts in The Mandalorian and Grogu

We've waited seven years to see our favourite baby on the big screen, and he did not disappoint. Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu is here, and so is Grogu – those big eyes, the pointy ears, the little green scene-stealer is as delightful as ever.

He might be cuter than ever, but is he still a baby? Or has he taken on a bigger role in this latest mission? What's certain is he’s still the heart of the show and the centre of all the movie’s most heartwarming moments. And if anyone can make us giggle, it’s Grogu. Let’s look at some of his best bits.

Grogu shows he’s grown as he looks after Din

Grogu nursing Din back to health was a real heartstrings-pulling moment. Din’s always been the one who has taken care of Baby Yoda, so to see the little guy look after his father is beautiful. Din comes out with a wise line about how old people look after their young, which then reverses as life goes on. This is a big time for tears. You just try and hold them back. Impossible.

Grogu and Rotta snuggle up

Of course, we were afraid Rotta would pose a massive threat and squish Grogu. I mean, it’s a question of physics, just look at the size of them. What we didn’t figure was them becoming friends. In fact, they feel so comfortable with each other that they take a nap together. The sight of Grogu slumbering on top of Rotta as the big creature gets some shut-eye is a big aww moment.

Anzellans and Baby Yoda to the rescue, a little chaotically

There are no words – literally, they can’t speak – for the Anzellan and Grogu scenes. There might be no dialogue, but we love their sounds and the way they interact; it more than makes up for the lack of speech and is all part of their charm.

Grogu gains a new friend

Rotta playing with Baby Yoda on the beach is a lovely, light moment that comes after the mission is completed. Din looks on at the peaceful scene on a sunset beach, recognising how carefree life can be.

Din lets Grogu loose on the forbidden control panel

During a tense fight and chase scene, Mando talks Grogu through the buttons and levers and tells him to touch the very controls he’s always taught him never to touch. Watching Grogu’s ears fly up and eyes widen in surprise at the sound of a rocket being launched after he flicks the first switch is brilliant.

Feel the force of Grogu – he's mini yet mighty

Seeing Grogu using the force is almost too much. The way he holds out his little arm with fingers outstretched – he’s so determined. It’s too much. We’re afraid for him, but bursting with pride all at the same time.

Grogu’s still growing… and still chomping on those snacks

Grogu’s got to keep his strength up, plus he’s a growing lad, so he needs to eat little and often. When the Mandalorian exercises his paternal right to take a packet of blue biscuits out of Grogu’s clutches, the noise of disappointment he makes is too cute. It’s the perfect parent-child moment and entirely relatable.
