Looking for a blast of new year horror that will chill you to the bone? Unwelcome fits the bill. Grabbers director Jon Wright unleashes rural Irish terror in this story of a young London couple who relocate to a remote forest where they come across primordial terror and angry locals.
With its throwback creature effects, ample gore and scene-chewing performances from Irish veterans such as Colm Meaney, there's plenty to get one's teeth into. Unwelcome previewed for Unlimited members last night as part of our Reward Season and the responses are now in. We've highlighted a few of them.
I liked it. It was weird, amusing, gory & a little bit disturbing, but mostly amusing 🙂

It kinda went from a gritty home invasion to a parody of ’Banshees of Inisherin’ before hitting peak B movie 😂😂

A strange film to begin with and some funny side characters but boy that last 25 mins is pure 80’s joy…..

Probably not for everyone but Damn good silly fun….
I thought it was great fun. It's a film where everyone involved knows its batshit INSANE and they just go with it. I thought the Jim Henson-esque models were a great addition. Would 100% watch it again.

I think it had a lot of potential but didn’t end up using it for anything. If they’d gone a bit deeper into toxic masculinity, trauma, or family dynamics it’d have been interesting.

The ending was… certainly something. I think that’ll take me a while to process.
Going to be in the minority but really liked the film up until the last 10-15 minutes where the story felt like an add on. A lot of interesting ideas and a really intense home invasion film. The backstory just felt too glistened over to the point where the ending felt forced.

It’s a strange movie which I think I enjoyed. It’s got a campy vibe to it and it never takes itself too seriously which leads to some good laughs.

I just felt the ending was a bit tacked on, and the first half is indeed slow and not that engaging. But overall still fun.
Bizarre in the best possible way!! Funny and terrifying at the same time
