Gandalf may brandish his staff on-screen but the real wizard behind The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug, released this Friday, is Oscar-winning director Peter Jackson.
The film is the second in his trilogy of movies adapted from J.R.R. Tolkien's classic novel. Having survived the Goblin tunnels in The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, Bilbo Baggins (Martin Freeman) and the Dwarves now face their greatest challenge in the form of the ferocious dragon Smaug (voiced by Benedict Cumberbatch).
In this revealing interview, Jackson discusses the creation of the film, including the design of the fearsome Smaug himself. He also chats about the various character arcs that come into play, including the beefed-up presence of the Elves and newly invented character Tauriel, played by Lost's Evangeline Lilly.
Jackson's passion and enthusiasm makes us more excited for the film itself. Watch the interview and tell us what you think. The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug is released this Friday. Click here to book your tickets.
