No Time To Die finally, FINALLY opened at cinemas worldwide last Friday (1st October), and early reports suggest that it's going to be a huge success.
The 25th official James Bond film, and the last for actor Daniel Craig, took an impressive $119 million in global box office receipts during its opening weekend – and it hasn't even opened in France (6th October), the US (8th October) or China (the end of the month) yet. The Cary Joji Fukunaga-directed action thriller did particularly well here in the UK, where it took a hefty £18.8 million in ticket sales.
We probably shouldn't be surprised by the film's success. Having been delayed multiple times, No Time To Die has become one of the most hotly anticipated Bond films of all time. It was originally earmarked for a November 2019 release but was put back to February and then April 2020 after Danny Boyle left the director's chair due to “creative differences”. Then the Covid-19 pandemic hit, meaning that the movie – now with Fukunaga holding the reins – was postponed to November 2020. With cases still on the rise, No Time To Die was then shelved again until April 2021, before an announcement came that Bond would finally hit the silver screen in October.
With a whole host of spectacular stunts, an incredible turn from Rami Malek as the evil Lyutsifer Safin, and a new black, female 007 (Lashana Lynch) all crammed into its mammoth 163-minute running time, No Time To Die is undoubtedly one of the most exciting James Bond films to date. But can it topple 2012's Skyfall as the most successful chapter in the iconic series? Only time will tell...
