Who ya gonna call? The Ghostbusters of course. The paranormal team is back in action in Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire, which picks up with the younger ghostbusting squad from the previous movie Afterlife.
Mckenna Grace's Phoebe and Finn Wolfhard's Trevor are now back in New York following the events of the previous film. They now appear to be fully reconciled with their ghostbusting past and the knowledge that their grandfather was the legendary Egon Spengler (the late Harold Ramis, whose likeness was used at the end of Afterlife).
Still, those pesky ghosts aren't done yet. A deadly deep freeze is sweeping the Big Apple and appears to be instigated by a new supernatural threat. Phoebe and Trevor must enlist their mother (Carrie Coon) and their teacher Mr Grooberson (Paul Rudd) to become Ghostbusters themselves and stop the new enemy in its tracks.
Afterlife helmer Jason Reitman, the son of the late Ivan Reitman who directed the first two Ghostbusters movies, has now given way to Monster House filmmaker Gin Kenan. (He and the former Reitman have collaborated on the script.) Expect more fan-pleasing nods, including the classic firehouse base of operations and Ecto-1 speeding into action. Ernie Hudson's Winston is back, having appeared in Afterlife, and the trailer confirms the inevitable appearance of Bill Murray's Pete Venkman.
Time to fire up those proton packs again. Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire is released in April 2024.
