Chris Evans is done with Marvel after Avengers 4

We don't yet know which of our favourite Avengers are going to survive this April's Infinity War, or next year's as yet untitled sequel. But one key cast member is preparing to throw in the towel after eight years: Chris Evans.

The man who put a face on star spangled super-soldier Steve Rogers aka Captain America says the 2019 Avengers movie will be his last ever as the character. Quoted in a New York Times profile piece, Evans says: "You want to get off the train before they push you off".

Evans first joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) in 2011 in Captain America: The First Avenger, reprising the role in Avengers Assemble (2012), Captain America: The Winter Soldier (2014), Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015) and Captain America: Civil War (2016). Both Infinity War and its follow-up were filmed back-to-back, so you can't blame the guy for calling it quits, although the real reason is contractual: Evans' contract expires in 2019, further fuelling speculation that Captain America will meet his end very soon.

Judging from the trailer in which Rogers grapples with oversized supervillain Thanos (Josh Brolin), might we expect him to go down in a blaze of glory? We're sure that's how he'd want it.

Gal Gadot and Ryan Reynolds tease each other over Deadpool 2

Strike a pose! We're not just quoting Madonna, we're describing irreverent Wade Wilson's (Ryan Reynolds) actions in the recently released – and seriously funny – trailer for Deadpool 2. Amidst all the noise about the formation of the X-Force and so on (click here to read our trailer breakdown), you may have noticed him standing in a certain position with his arms crossed.

Nothing untoward there? Tell that to Wonder Woman star Gal Gadot who has lightheartedly called out Reynolds for 'stealing' the signature pose of her character. Ever the razor sharp wit, Reynolds replied, "Imitation is the sincerest form of larceny". Nice to see that actors on the DC and Marvel sides of the fence can still exchange amusing barbs with class and good humour.

What we wouldn't give to watch these two trade bantz on the big screen... Sadly, owing to franchise loyalties, that's unlikely to ever happen. Nevertheless, console yourselves with the knowledge that Deadpool 2 is released on 16th May with Wonder Woman 2 pencilled in for a November 2019 release date.

Pacific Rim Uprising dethrones Black Panther at the USA box office

We've reported extensively over the past six weeks about Black Panther's extraordinary run of box office success. Even so, its time at the top wasn't going to last forever...

Step forward Pacific Rim Uprising, whose smashing blend of massive robots and equally ginormous monsters has toppled Marvel's latest movie from its perch. The follow-up to Guillermo del Toro's 2013 smash-em-up stars John Boyega in the lead role, and opened to $151m globally, according to Forbes. This includes the $28m USA opening that ultimately dethroned T'Challa and the kingdom of Wakanda. The movie also opened strongly in China with $65m.

"We’re really pleased with the overall worldwide launch of this title," Jim Orr, president of domestic distribution at Universal, said. "It was engineered to be a global event, which it delivered on. It’s very rewarding to be No.1 at the box office and to dethrone the former champion is obviously satisfying. They had a great run."

Indeed, Box Office Mojo reports Black Panther has now passed the global $1.2bn mark and has become the most successful superhero of all time in America. We're sure that'll be enough to keep the old vibranium deposits stocked up for the next few years.
