Speculation is still raging as to the exact nature of The Last Jedi's storyline, but even more crucial is how it will impinge on 2019 Star Wars release, Episode IX. The latter will bring this new Star Wars trilogy to a close, director JJ Abrams completing the journey that he started, and it seems like we're about to say goodbye to Daisy Ridley's Rey...

According to the actress, who shot to immediate fame with her impassioned and sensitive portrayal of the Force-sensitive Jakku scavenger, one Star Wars trilogy to her name is more than enough. This comes amidst speculation, fuelled by producer and Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy, that the adventures of Rey and her allies could continue indefinitely in future adventures, but it sounds like Daisy may be calling it quits.

When asked by Rolling Stone if she'll be back for more films after Episode IX, she replies: "No. For me, I didn’t really know what I was signing on to. I hadn’t read the script, but from what I could tell, it was really nice people involved, so I was just like, 'Awesome.' Now I think I am even luckier than I knew then, to be part of something that feels so like coming home now. No. No, no, no. I am really, really excited to do the third thing and round it out, because ultimately, what I was signing on to was three films. So in my head, it’s three films. I think it will feel like the right time to round it out."

Sad it will be to say goodbye to Rey (assuming that she doesn't return Harrison Ford/Carrie Fisher style a few decades down the line), it's a clear sign that Daisy is broadening her range. She excelled as murder suspect Mary Debenham in blockbusting Agatha Christie adaptation Murder on the Orient Express and next year will be lending her voice to Beatrix Potter adventure Peter Rabbit. She's also starring alongside Tom Holland in Patrick Ness sci-fi adaptation Chaos Walking, released in 2019.

Disney casts its new Mulan

The new adaptations of both The Jungle Book and Beauty and the Beast have sprinkled magic over the box office recently, and there are more live-action Disney reboots coming down the pipe.

In 2019 we're not only getting Jon Favreau's reworking of The Lion King, with Donald Glover and Beyonce on vocal duties as Simba and Nala. That same year we're also getting a sumptuous do-over of 1998 classic Mulan, Disney's stirring and inspirational story of the Chinese girl who disguises herself as a male soldier to battle the villainous Huns.

Stop belting out 'Reflection' for a moment, because we've got some news. It's been announced that actress and martial artist Liu Yifei AKA Crystal Liu has been cast in the title role – she's perhaps best known to Western audiences for starring opposite Jackie Chan and Jet Li in 2008 historical epic The Forbidden Kingdom.

The movie will be directed by Whale Rider filmmaker Niki Caro and, controversially, won't be including any of the singing from its animated counterpart. Good idea or bad? Let us know @Cineworld.
