A Quiet Place: Part II hasn't even been released yet, but writer-director John Krasinski says we can't rule out a third terrifying installment in the horror series.
In an interview with Collider, he explains that thoughts of a sequel to A Quiet Place were initially far from his mind. And, on that basis, we shouldn't discredit a third dose of human vs monster action.
"It’s interesting, I genuinely hadn’t thought about a second one when I was doing the first one," Krasinski recalls. "However, I really had these questions while I was doing it. I put the fires out in the distance in the first one, and I always thought to myself, ‘Wouldn’t it be cool if we got to explore where those fires lead to? Who’s on the other end of those fires?’ But I never thought that there would be a sequel.
"So then when I actually came around to writing the sequel, I started with the fires. And so this time, I think when my brain started wandering of questions of what would this mean later on, I started to write down notes in case I could prepare myself for a third one."
How that potential third movie takes shape remains to be seen. In 2018, A Quiet Place established the suspenseful and agonising battle between the Abbott family and marauding beasts that hunt via sound. This year's sequel is set to expand the scope, sending the Abbotts beyond their homestead and into the wider world, occasionally dipping into flashbacks that show how the creatures first arrived on Earth.
Emily Blunt reprises her role as Evelyn, although, as per the events of the original movie, Krasinski's character Lee is absent from everything bar the flashbacks. Noah Jupe and Millicent Simmonds are back as Evelyn's children Marcus and Regan – the latter is deaf, and she worked out that the monsters can be temporarily disabled with piercing audio feedback. Cillian Murphy and Djimon Hounsou are fellow survivors that the Abbotts meet along the way.
